Zelda fans are legion and loyal, and they proved it by pushing The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia, the 274-page chronological account on The Legend of Zelda universe, to the top of the New York Times Advice and Miscellaneous Hardcover bestseller list on February 10, where it still sits as of this writing. We even have some Zelda memorabilia around the house, including a not-often-played ocarina. Valiant effort, haunting melodies, faerie-like creatures, and lots of swordplay are part of this hero’s journey tale. You could throw in many more intrigues too, since there would also be a Zora princess, a Goron king, a Gerudo ambassador, a mysterious human boy who lives in the Kokiri forest, etc.The Legend of Zelda is one of the few video games my son plays that tempts me to park on the couch and watch. You have Zelda traveling amongst the factions trying to keep the peace, trying to persuade the Kokiri to lend aid (ala Treants of Middle Earth), with a young Hylian Knight in her entourage and her bodyguard Impa doing their best to keep her safe from an assassin trying to undo all her work, etc, Given the source material, I could see the following:ġ) The Knights of Hyrule are a long disregarded group of warriors who protect the princess, herself a figurehead.Ģ) The Sheikah are a tribe of warrior women who continue to swear fealty to the princess in spite of the current power structure.ģ) The Gerudo are another race of warrior women, nomads who roam the desert and are themselves struggling through a civil war of sorts.Ĥ) The current King who happens to sit on an uneasy alliance between humans, Goron, and Zora as they watch the Gerudo civil war as it spills over into Hyruleĥ) The unallied forest folk, the Kokiri, who only seek to be left alone and out of the war.Ħ) A mysterious figure (which could be anyone really from the Zelda mythology) fueling the civil war, upsetting the alliance, threatening the Deku tree, manipulating the Goron and the Zora, etc. There's very few parts of Game of Thrones that could translate to family TV. Somehow I doubt the similarity to Game of Thrones will go farther than the shared medieval setting. as a "Game of Thrones for a family audience," with a "humorous, kid-friendly tone."
